Don't let a good story stand in the way of truth!

When the Al Queda terrorists decided to use human bombs to cause maximum damage and fatalities, a new evil of global terrorism was brought onto the world stage. Out of the smouldering smoke of 'Ground Zero' a new era was dawning, and the world will never be the same again. 9/11 affected many people from different countries and religions, and these callous acts of evil sent out a cold shiver that stretched across to the four corners of the earth. World views and politics have, and will be, reshaped forever. The prospects are frightening, and no one quite knows where the war on terror will take us. One thing is for sure, ways of combating terrorism will be relentlessly pursued, and this will include everything from freezing their finances to targeting countries that harbour them. These are truly turbulent times and a black mark on the pages of history.

It came as no surprise that in one of the bleakest hours of modern history, UL's poured out of the gaping wound like a swarm of locus. The fact that the focus of these legends are on 9/11 offend and appal many people and can be viewed as disrespectful and insensitive, but, like jokes, these legends can be seen as part of a healing process in the wake of a tragedy. These legends contain controversy, conspiracies, humour, and sinister predictions, all of which are a formula to try and make sense of a situation that most of us simply cannot comprehend.

The ULs surrounding the events of 9/11 form a very important reflection of the fears and thoughts that capture the aftermath of the tragedy. They are also being used as a propaganda tool in the fight against terrorism, mirroring the use of UL's in any war.

It would be impossible to include all the UL's surrounding the events of 9/11 as it would take a huge book to cover half of the legends, and new ones are surfacing on a daily basis. Some of the ULs out there are in bad taste and I have been very selective of the ones to which I have included in this chapter.

The most controversial UL I have tackled in this category has to be Pentagon Attack (WT9807). This conspiracy theory asks questions about the official version given that an aircraft crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. I have investigated each one of the questions in turn and reported the findings. Don't try and read this one last thing at night!

The Birmingham Warning (WT9808) deals with a subject much closer to home, while you computer club nerds will know all about the Wingdings Conspiracy (WT9802). Bill Gates again-give the bloke a break!

After any tragic event people wonder what they could have done to prevent it. Some seek refuge in the theory that it was 'fate' and it was 'meant to be'. This line of thinking is often backed up by prediction theories. In the aftermath of 9/11 many of these theories emerged, ranging from a prediction in a $20 note (WT9805) to the old favourite Nostradamus (WT9803), who has apparently predicted everything from the Great Fire Of London, both World Wars, to the eerie prediction that I will have scrambled eggs for my breakfast next Thursday!

And for those of you that have fond memories of the children's TV favourite Sesame Street, you will be horrified to hear that Bert has been linked to Osama Bin Laden. You don't believe me? Check out Bert Is Evil (WT9801), and you will see what I mean.

There are certain events in history that get engraved in the memory of many people throughout the world. People say that they will always remember what they were doing the exact moment that they had heard that JFK had been shot, when man first landed on the moon, or when Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident. You will probably always remember what you were doing when the events unfolded on the fateful day of 11th September 2001.
