This category is a round trip cruise that will let you explore UL's from across the four corners of the earth. We have the Gucci Kangaroo (AW1801) from down under. An amusing tale with many variations, and has now been made into a feature film. We have an absolutely horrific offering from Japan called Honeymoon Horror (AW1903), which explores the very real and gruesome trade of human trafficking. Nearer home in Europe we have the Belgium Beast (AW1908), an amazing and ridiculous tale that mixes the anti-Christ with big brother (you have to read it to believe it!). Nearer home still, we have the remarkable but true story of a refugee who has been stranded at the Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris for more than a decade in Home Is Where The Airport Is (AW1910).
This selection of UL's in Around The World is but a mere sprinkling compared to the mass volume in circulation worldwide. I suppose you could say that this is more of a fly-over than a cruise, a tiny glimpse of what this category has to offer. It would be impossible to cover all the legends from around the world, as each country has such a vast and rich supply of national legends that have been embroidered into the very fabric of their own societies. To give this category justice, a book of legends from each and every country would need to be produced. Perhaps something to do on a rainy afternoon!
UL's can be a useful tool in understanding the different
cultures of a country as they often represent the views, politics, fears and
anxieties of the people. In other words, to understand what makes different
cultures tick; one of the best sources of information is UL's.
