This book made a fascinating introduction to a subject I'd never given much thought to before. Once you've read it you realise where all the horror films got their plots from! It's a really accessible, easy read which you can dip into or read all in one go.
The book is divided into a variety of subjects, from the kind of scary stories that everyone shared in the playground, to the up to date conspiracy theories about major corporations and international incidents.
You're guaranteed to be fascinated with the subject by the end of this book!

Fantastic Read!!!!!!!!! (5 star rating on Amazon.co.uk)
Mr.C Robinson (Robbo) - London
deep-fried rat, a flatulent surprise and a hook-handed serial killer feature in the tales told in Mark Barber’s latest book.
The author seeks to get to the truth behind the urban legends told around office coolers, bars and playgrounds the world over. The stories range from spine chilling campfire ghost tales to locker-room jokes and high-altitude horrifying happenings.
But they always have one thing in common – they always happened to a “friend of a friend”.
Mark blows the lid off almost 100 of the often told stories in his book – Urban Legends – that was released on Monday.

Hi Mark,
Borrowed your book from the local library - went out and bought a copy before I had finished reading it. Fantastic reading - makes one think a lot about playground stories etc. Keep up the good work. Would love another book - when will you write Volume II.

Hi Mark,
I just finished reading your book about half an hour ago. I read it in a couple of days I found it that fascinating.
Looking forward to exploring the website.

Hi,
I came across another version of Code HR4707 (Lights Out) which applies to Malaysia instead of USA. Please see the below story.
I believe this UL has spread to Asia.
Similarly, Code CR1702 (The Body in the Bed) has been spread around Genting Highlands, Malaysia mentioning that the First World Hotel (One of the earliest hotels there) had a dead body in the bed. Whether it is true or false, this story has been spreading through Singapore and Malaysia since the 1990s.
By the way, your book was great! and though I'm not living in the USA/UK, many of the ULs has already spread to Asia in a different version.

Hi Mark
My favourite UL was Kaspar the wooden cat. I also found the 9/11 windings and $20 note very spooky!
Don't you think it would make a good TV docu series with each legend being re-acted then a piece on the history of the legend?

Just to let you know - my 14 year old daughter says you need to hurry up and write book 2, because she is really enjoying the urban legends!

Recipe for a good book
Take One fresh author,
A few hundred ULs,
Witty humour with a pince of salt,
2 eggs and 500ml of water
Mix until light and fluffy
Pour 4 years of essence of life into the mix and bake at gas mark 5 for 1
hour.
What do you get?
A great book that is not only easy to read but easy to digest. No mental indigestion
with this fantastic book.
A pleasure to read.
Kind Regards,
James Langridge-

The book was lovely. I enjoyed that it wasnt just stories on urban legends, but how urban legends are being used today in so many facets. My favorite was always bloody mary, ever since I was a child...it was my introduction into urban legends, and it was scary.

I have just finished reading your
book. It is great, a good read and pretty funny. It did make me chuckle. I
would say that I will recommend the book to everyone I know but I have already
done that so all there is left to say is, great book and a brilliant idea
to write one at that! I would never have taken an interest in ULs if not for
your book.

i finished it at 11 this morning. if i find the time, i'll write down some of the uncovered urban legends on here.

Hi Mark. Love the book. Probably the best I've read for a while - when is vol 2 coming out? I have a heap of nigerian scam emails that differ slightly from the one you have on your website. Do you want me to email them to you ... or would you prefer that they ended up in my deleted items?? Anyway, keep up the good work.

Dear mr barber, I have recently read your book, i to have also been fascinated by urban legends for a while and i would just like to thank you for compiling all these stories into one great book, (even though my friends still think, and are adamant that most of these things happend even though i've showed them your evidence). anyway again thank you, your work has just given me that extra kick into trying to find more and about more urban legends. yours thankfully, Joseph Bell.
